One of the main projects of this summer has been the development and restructuring of tanning discharges. Improving the process of collecting water from processing baths, separating the effluent from the riviera (derived from the soaking and liming phases), from the tanning and dyeing phases of the leather.
Semicircular channels installed on each barrel allow the recovery of the processing baths, and perform specific water recycling and recovery treatments.
Noteworthy, it is surely the recovery of the hair during the calcination phase, which allows to limit considerably the polluting load immediately. Particular "recipes" allow the hair to remain intact, to detach from the skins, gathering in special fine-meshed grids, which hold it and extract it from the barrels.
Now the already partially cleaned waste water is channeled into the newly renovated containment basin, to undergo further recovery processes. Pumps and mixers move the liquid, which thanks to decantation and mechanical separators such as: grilling and pressing, remove suspended solids from the solution.
These and other processes allow us to reach 60% recovery of bath water, reducing solids in the drain by 30-40% and lowering COD (Chemical Oxygen Domand) up to 30%. They create cleaner muds, and totally recyclable waste respecting the environment, not allocating tons of material to landfills as in antiquity.
